The 13th Annual Southeast Model African Union Conference

Mercer University’s Africana Studies Program is hosting the Southeast Model African Union at the Macon Marriott City Center Hotel from November 5-7, 2009. The Southeast Model African Union is essentially a simulation of the proceedings of the African Union, the central organization of African nations that functions much like the European Union. This conference provides a unique opportunity for university and college students to study the role, structure and performance of the African Union in the search for solutions to key economic, social, and political-security issues facing the African continent. Through simulation, participants gain a better and clearer understanding of the multi-various determinants, capabilities and constraints that shape the domestic and foreign policies of African countries as well as the patterns of cooperation and conflict that characterize intra-African diplomacy. Faculty and students who participate in this conference willl enrich and enhance their understanding of political, economic and cultural dimensions of different African countries, how they relate to each other, and to the rest of the world, from a uniquely African perspective.

More than a dozen universities throughout the Southeast will sponsor student delegations representing more than 20 African nations to this meeting. The links on this webpage provide the essential information you will need to prepare for this conference. Please feel free to contact my office if you have further questions or concerns.
